Thanks again, Lew for setting this up.

My post involves a request from participants in the seminar. I am doing a one-day workshop as part of a vertical teaming project in Prince George County MD. I would like to give my participants some practical advice. Vertical teaming essentially brings together teachers who come into contact with students along the student's path to their AP course for training preping them for AP - although they do not officialy have a prep rally.... My question.... What would you like teachers who get your AP students prior to you getting them to know? to do? What should I make certain they are aware of? Specific advice is very helpful - and has lots of credibility....

Wow. Even a technical knucklehead like me can participate.

It was nice spending a week in Abington with you and the rest of the group.

I think the best thing that can be done for vertical teaming is for 10th grade teachers to use AP language and various AP tools like SIFT and socratic circles. I think this is going to give my prvious honors students agreat advantage in my Ap class this year! the main thing is to start talking about and using rhetoric in the classroom as soon as possible.

Dear LAZ,

Pardon the interruption. My name is Alan Hayakawa. I stumbled across your AP students' discussion of the ideas in Language in Thought and Action, and it is exciting to read their comments on my father's work. Very thoughtful students...

Carry on ...
